ACC Distinguished Awards Program



Only One Week Left to Nominate a Colleague for The 2012 Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist Award

Have you Nominated a Deserving Colleague Yet?



The American College of Cardiology is pleased to invite your nominations for the 2012 Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist award, recognizing a young scientist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease and who has amassed an impressive body of scientific research in either the clinical or basic domain.

Nominees must be no more than five years out of training from an accredited U.S. institution or comparable international training program.

The recipient will be invited to present his or her scientific work at the Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology, in Chicago, IL, March 24-27, 2012. The Zipes awardee will also be recognized at the annual Convocation of the College and receive a monetary prize of $1,000 plus travel, housing and registration expense reimbursement to attend the meeting & present their work.

Nominations are invited from the following:

  • U.S. and international cardiovascular organizations

  • U.S. and international medical schools and/or cardiology departments


    • This program differs from other ACC distinguished awards for several reasons:

  • Nominations are invited from both ACC membership and from the wider national/international community

  • The recipient may not necessarily be an ACC member at the time of nomination

  • The awardee may not be widely known


    • The Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist Award provides a wonderful chance to recognize the efforts of emerging scientists in our field. We strongly encourage you to consider a deserving individual whose credentials you could present to the Awards Committee.
